Kinsta Alternative

Convesio vs. Kinsta

Kinsta is one of the most popular web hosts for WordPress. But is it the best choice for every type of WordPress site? It depends on exactly what you're looking for in a hosting provider. On this page, we'll show how Convesio is a great Kinsta alternative and help you decide which managed WordPress hosting service is best for you.

How Convesio Compares to Kinsta

Put simply: if you only care about the number of websites, Kinsta is a good option.  If you care about performance, uptime, and security, you’ll want Convesio.

If your WordPress website is static content that doesn’t change or receive input from users, you can save a bit on your monthly cost by going with Kinsta’s standard tier bandwidth plan. For sites where speed matters – like  eCommerce, membership, learning platforms, and so on, however, this plan probably won’t cut it. In these cases, you’ll want to look for a Kinsta alternative. Convesio is a better choice. Our fully managed WordPress hosting plans shave seconds off the page load times of WordPress sites.  This results in a great customer experience and better SEO performance. That’s why Convesio is the one of the best managed WordPress hosts around.

If your site delivers revenue to your business, the ROI will be far higher on Convesio’s platform,  as you won’t have any timeouts from heavy traffic loads. For SEO, it’s important to note that Google factors in page speed and bounce rate when calculating organic value on their rankings and quality score for ads.  If you do online advertising or rely on organic results from Google and other search engines, Convesio is your best bet.

Do You Need Business-Quality WordPress Hosting?

Kinsta, like many other WordPress hosts, uses large servers, where many websites are installed on the same physical machine.  Once on that machine, you are stuck on it, unless you upgrade to an enterprise plan. The primary benefit of this shared server setup is lower startup costs, plus the ability to host more sites on the same hard disk.  This works best for customers that don’t need performance or uptime and instead want the lowest cost possible.

One major concern and complaint of Kinsta users is that they limit the number of PHP workers to only 2 per WordPress site on most plans.

Workers process scripts on the website and if workers get too busy (because of too many requests or concurrent users) the site will slow to a crawl – until the workers go through their backlog of requests.

This is why Kinsta sites are often some of the slowest among major hosting providers.  Google “Kinsta workers” to see common concerns and complaints.

Convesio, on the other hand, provides on average, 6x more workers on equivalent plans. We can also scale these horizontally very easily.  This means Convesio can temporarily scale your website  so that you’re able to serve a fast experience anywhere for exponentially more concurrent users. Our hosting environment is simply more powerful.

Convesio uses containers to streamline and protect each individual WordPress installation.  It removes server bloatware and runs the bare minimum software necessary to provide protection and superior performance.

The downside? Each container comes with  minimum guaranteed resources, so Convesio charges for each individual website installation. This is somewhat unusual in the hosting space, but it makes sense when you consider everything that is included: a dedicated container, resources, and individual software licenses. At the end of the day, if you need to scale, Convesio ends up being cheaper than any other Kinsta alternative.

Similar Pricing, But Different Products

Convesio’s pricing is straightforward and transparent. All plans come with everything you need, including generous storage space, bandwidth, and enterprise software. Plus, we can offer you a free migration to a dedicated server. Kinsta has many hidden fees and limitations on users, bandwidth, and workers. It’s a good idea to do a search on “Kinsta site slowness, downtime, and lack of workers” to understand how their servers are constrained.

Ultimately, Convesio and Kinsta provide very different types of WordPress hosting, although the pricing is fairly similar. Kinsta uses large servers, where many websites are installed on the same physical machine.  Once on that machine, you are stuck on it, unless you upgrade to an Enterprise plan.

The primary benefit of this shared server setup is lower startup costs, plus the ability to host more sites on the same hard disk.  This works best for customers that don’t need performance or uptime and instead want the absolute lowest cost possible.  However, it also means that other hosting providers like Convesio provide better performance.

Another benefit to Convesio’s container based strategy is that enterprise grade software is added and included automatically. On Kinsta, it costs additional fees.  If you review the pricing page of Kinsta, they list out over 30 items that cost extra.

Compare that to Convesio, which includes items like Redis ($100/mo), Nginx ($50/mo), Cloudflare Enterprise ($200/mo), Direct Slack Support ($500/mo), Monarx ($75/mo). While Kinsta has lower starting costs, when you add in extras, Kinsta can cost vastly more for the same resources.  This makes Convesio a dramatically cheaper Kinsta alternative.

Both Convesio and Kinsta leverage the Google Cloud Platform for the actual equipment and bandwidth.  Convesio leverages Premium Tier on all plans Business Level 2 and above.  These plans get priority for bandwidth and processing.  To get this level of performance on Kinsta, you’ll have to pay for their top enterprise plans.

Convesio is an expensive option to those that don’t need scalable infrastructure and we are honest about this. We’re happy to recommend our competitors when there’s a better fit, including Kinsta!

However, Convesio is much more affordable than WP Engine when it comes to scalability.

We’ve productized scaling WordPress and have made it affordable for everyone. You save on set up costs, can get going in minutes and don’t need to engage a SySAdmin for maintenance.

We have also bundled in premium functions that you pay extra on Kinsta.

Key Security Features

When it comes to keeping your site safe, how do Kinsta and Convesio compare?

On Kinsta, you don’t have access to a secure firewall with DDoS protection unless you pay for an extra “Global Edge Security” add-on.

Furthermore, Kinsta’s lack of uptime monitoring for non-premium and non-enterprise plans means you might not get notified promptly when your site goes down – unless you pay for a third-party monitoring service. This is all included in our price.

Some of Kinsta’s key security measures include:

  • Automatic backups
  • Cloudflare DDoS protection and free SSL
  • Two-factor authentication
  • SFTP / SSH protocols
  • Multilingual support chat
  • Isolated software containers
  • Highly-rated dashboard
  • Staging environment
  • Kinsta’s Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tool

At Convesio, security is a top priority. All sites on Convesio are protected by a free Cloudflare integration, which includes an enterprise-level firewall with a custom ruleset and DDoS protection. With Cloudflare, you’ll get the benefits of enhanced security and performance – without having to manage your own Cloudflare account.

Some of Convesio’s key security measures include:

  • Monitoring sites every one minutes for uptime, 1440 times a day.
  • Real-time DDoS attack detection and mitigation.
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) support, and automatic bans for IPs with rate limiting in effect from Cloudflare.
  • A dedicated Security Team to address malicious attackers, hacks, and exploits and will manually clean your site and identify plugins with issues.
  • Automated backups for all plans, so you never lose your site or data. We also store two weeks of backups at all times, with the possibility to increase data retention.
  • Only support for encrypted SFTP and SSH connections (no FTP).
  • Free Cloudflare SSL certificates with wildcard domain support.
  • Automatic security checks for every plugin installed to discover vulnerabilities and/or security issues leveraging Patchman and Monarx AI to identify malware and insecurities.

What People Say About Convesio

When You Need Help, Can You Get It?

When it comes to support, both Convesio and Kinsta have top reviews on sites like G2.  The main difference is that Convesio gives you direct access to their DevOps and system architect support teams via Slack. On Kinsta you have to submit a ticket and wait for a response.

Kinsta has a well-rated support system. However, since they are a larger host, this inevitably means that their level of individual support is significantly less.

The chat support system for Kinsta is integrated right into the website’s dashboard. In some scenarios, this is ideal, as it is easy to get help. However, it’s a bit less flexible than Convesio’s strategy of using Slack.

Finally, if your site needs to scale and handle high amounts of traffic in a short period of time, Kinsta can come up short, especially in terms of support. When it comes to scaling container-based server architectures, Kinsta simply doesn’t have the expertise and know-how that Convesio does.

With Convesio, you can get WordPress support with a quick turnaround time. Convesio staffs full-time WordPress experts that typically respond to chat messages in 30 seconds. Convesio provides 24/7 chat assistance and access via our Slack channel, which allows us to resolve technical issues without filing tickets or waiting for tier escalation support. Convesio also answers and investigates issues with WordPress that go far beyond simple server questions.

Our support is 24/7, tier-less and goes the extra mile. We promise performance and scale and if this means diving deep into WordPress to resolve an issue we’ll do it.

We’ve adopted Slack as the main internal support channel. You’ll reach support first but any team member, or even multiple people, can jump in to help if needed. It’s not uncommon for our CEO, Tom Fanelli, to lend and a hand either.

Our Promise

Our platform delivers the performance you need at scale. But we also know that there are 100 different things that can go wrong. If they do, support is just one click away - 24/7. We'll do whatever it takes to help. Not upsell you to a more expensive plan.

Do You Run a Business-Critical Website?

Kinsta is a solid host and their customers are largely happy with their hosting plans. However, Kinsta is designed for smaller, less-serious websites. If your business relies on your website to generate revenue, you’ll probably want a more serious host like Convesio.
