Robinson Consulting Eliminates Downtime and Improves PageSpeed by Switching to Convesio from Amazon Lightsail
As an experienced instructional designer and content expert on rehabilitation medicine and orthopedics, I had the opportunity to collaborate with industry leaders to better train clinicians and patients on medical device technologies that are transforming patient outcomes. While the engineering and development teams behind the product lines were clearly more than capable, the greatest barriers to disseminating information were due to limitations in the online platforms being implemented. Clients often used platforms or developers that leverage proprietary tools or hosting that simply could not keep up with the volume of users and specifications needed to deliver an interactive and engaging learning experience.
Making the Jump:
Limitations of existing websites and offerings made me quickly realize I would need to leverage a platform that could be easily customized and had a large workforce available to support design and implementation, so that I could focus my energy on the training of clinicians. WordPress became an obviously solution given the incredible number of resources, but it became clear in a short amount of time that the hosting solutions within my client’s price range were not robust enough to handle their needs. In the interim, I resorted to leverage Amazon EC2 and other AWS platforms which provided reasonable performance but pulled me into devops and infrastructure sapping valuable time away from my core product.
And then I discovered Convesio:
I was quite familiar with high availability offerings within the corporate settings I had worked, but never before had I seen an implementation that offered a price to performance ratio at this level. Hosting costs over $250 per month per client were not plausible and supporting a farm of EC2 instances was a task that I would prefer not to do. The ability to leverage containers and run instances that are truly scalable is fantastic as the sites I host routinely have large spikes in user base. I would quickly max out the CPU load on my AWS instances and was still limited by database implementation challenges when using Amazon. I am pleased to say that is no longer an issue, database writes are faster than ever, the only time the site goes down is when I choose to do so, and my GTMetrix scores have improved exponentially. Beyond getting my time back to focus on the core mission of my consulting practice, I have also been incredibly pleased with the support offered by the team at Convesio. A major incompatibility popped up with a plugin that I was unable to troubleshoot. Instead of having a generic Amazon EC2 support member walk me through steps I had already completed, Tom and his team were able to isolate and quickly fix this issue thanks to their expertise in database driven hosting and the WordPress platform that drives my sites. I’ve never had a hosting partner that routinely exceeded my expectations every day, but I am pleased to say that is exactly what Convesio does. Backups are included in the hosting price and the real-time metrics and server load let me easily see where optimizations can occur during load-testing. The tools provided save me countless hours in server upkeep and they are elegant enough that any member of my team can quickly perform routine operations.
