Convesio vs. SiteGround

SiteGround is one of the best-known web hosts. But does that mean they are a good choice for WordPress sites? If your site is growing, you'll probably want to graduate to a more serious host. On this page, we'll compare SiteGround to Convesio and help you decide if our managed WordPress hosting plans are a good choice for your business.

Introduction

How Convesio Compares to SiteGround

Put simply: if you want a basic, reliable website for a low price, SiteGround is a solid hosting option.  But if you need a more serious host for handling eCommerce, membership, or LMS sites, you’ll want to graduate to a more powerful host like Convesio.

Founded in 2004, SiteGround is one of the longest-lived website hosting companies. For the most part, they have a good reputation, although their recent price increases have been criticized by many customers. SiteGround is a mass-market host: they have millions of customers and make money by charging very low prices. This means that SiteGround is sufficient if you are just creating a personal website. But if you need something more powerful to handle business-level traffic, SiteGround will probably come up short.

Convesio, on the other hand, is a premium WordPress host that is focused on businesses, LMS sites, membership sites, and other serious websites. Our fully managed WordPress hosting plans shave seconds off the page load times of WordPress sites.  This results in a great customer experience and better SEO performance. That’s why Convesio is the one of the best managed WordPress hosts around.

Simply put, if your site generates revenue for your business, SiteGround probably won’t cut it. Your ROI will be much higher on Convesio, as you won’t have any timeouts from heavy traffic loads. Plus, our expert support team means you get direct, personal support – and not the mass-market generic support solutions provided by SiteGround.

Features

Do You Need Business-Quality WordPress Hosting?

SiteGround, like many other legacy hosts, uses large servers, where hundreds of websites are installed on the same physical machine.  Once on that machine, you are stuck on it, unless you upgrade to an enterprise plan.

While this does lower costs, it also means your performance and security is much lower. If you are just hosting a small personal site, this isn’t an issue. But if you need business-quality hosting, SiteGround probably won’t be sufficient to handle it.

SITEGROUND

The main downside of SiteGround is that their hosting plans are quite basic. While they are quite inexpensive, they also lack some essential features that an eCommerce or membership site should have – like Cloudflare or auto scaling Docker containers.

CONVESIO

Convesio, on the other hand, provides a huge collection of powerful tools with all of our plans. This includes full-page caching by Cloudflare, as well as Docker auto scaling. This results in a powerful, dependable website that can handle any amount of traffic.

Pricing

Pay-per-Feature vs. Inclusive

Convesio’s pricing is straightforward and transparent. All plans come with everything you need, including generous storage space, bandwidth, and enterprise software. Plus, we can offer you a free migration to a dedicated server.

SiteGround, on the other hand, doesn’t include most of these extra services. You’ll need to purchase them separately and install them separately. SiteGround also strongly prefers that you sign up for an annual plan; their monthly prices are significantly more expensive.

Ultimately, Convesio and SiteGround provide very different types of WordPress hosting. SiteGround uses large servers, where many websites are installed on the same physical machine.  Once on that machine, you are stuck on it, unless you upgrade to a better plan.

The primary benefit of this shared server setup is lower startup costs, plus the ability to host more sites on the same hard disk.  This works best for customers that don’t need performance or uptime and instead want the absolute lowest cost possible.  However, it also means that other hosting providers like Convesio provide better performance.

SITEGROUND

Another benefit to Convesio’s container based strategy is that enterprise grade software is added and included automatically. On SiteGround, it either costs more or isn’t available at all – and you’ll have to pay for it separately and then install it yourself.

Compare that to Convesio, which includes items like Redis ($100/mo), Nginx ($50/mo), Cloudflare Enterprise ($200/mo), Direct Slack Support ($500/mo), Monarx ($75/mo). While SiteGround has lower starting costs, when you add in extras, SiteGround can cost vastly more for the same resources.  This makes Convesio a dramatically cheaper SiteGround alternative.

CONVESIO

Convesio is an expensive option to those that don’t need scalable infrastructure and we are honest about this. We’re happy to recommend our competitors when there’s a better fit, including SiteGround!

However, Convesio is much more affordable than SiteGround when it comes to scalability.

We’ve productized scaling WordPress and have made it affordable for everyone. You save on set up costs, can get going in minutes and don’t need to engage a SySAdmin for maintenance.

We have also bundled in premium functions that you pay extra on SiteGround — or aren’t available at all.

Security

Key Security Features

When it comes to keeping your site safe, how do SiteGround and Convesio compare?

SITEGROUND

SiteGround has some basic security features, more than many other cheap web hosts like Liquid Web. However, their security is still “boilerplate” and can pose a problem if more sophistaced attacks occur.

  • Latest PHP version on servers
  • Automatic backups
  • Apache in chrooted environment
  • sophisticated IDS/IPS systems which block malicious bots and attackers (Intrusion detection/prevention systems).
  • ModSecurity on all shared servers
  • WAF rules (Web application firewall)
CONVESIO

At Convesio, security is a top priority. All sites on Convesio are protected by a free Cloudflare integration, which includes an enterprise-level firewall with a custom ruleset and DDoS protection. With Cloudflare, you’ll get the benefits of enhanced security and performance – without having to manage your own Cloudflare account.

Some of Convesio’s key security measures include:

  • Monitoring sites every one minutes for uptime, 1440 times a day.
  • Real-time DDoS attack detection and mitigation.
  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) support, and automatic bans for IPs with rate limiting in effect from Cloudflare.
  • A dedicated Security Team to address malicious attackers, hacks, and exploits and will manually clean your site and identify plugins with issues.
  • Automated backups for all plans, so you never lose your site or data. We also store two weeks of backups at all times, with the possibility to increase data retention.
  • Only support for encrypted SFTP and SSH connections (no FTP).
  • Free Cloudflare SSL certificates with wildcard domain support.
  • Automatic security checks for every plugin installed to discover vulnerabilities and/or security issues leveraging Patchman and Monarx AI to identify malware and insecurities.

TESTIMONIALS

What People Say About Convesio

Support

When You Need Help, Can You Get It?

When it comes to support, both Convesio and SiteGround are known for solving issues quickly and efficiently.  The main difference is that Convesio takes a personal approach, allowing you to directly contact our engineers via email or Slack. On SiteGround, you have to submit a ticket and wait for a response.

SITEGROUND

SiteGround has pretty good reviews for support. However, because they are a huge host with vast numbers of customers, you have little access to experts. The support process is thus very impersonal and not tailored to your particular needs.

SiteGround offers phone, chat, and ticket-based support systems. This does offer some flexibility, but it also means that you’ll be dealing with a different person every time you need help, which may seem impersonal to many people. At Convesio, our expert support team communicates with you consistently, building a personal relationship that lasts over time.

Finally, if your site needs to scale and handle high amounts of traffic in a short period of time, SiteGround can come up short, especially in terms of support. When it comes to scaling container-based server architectures, SiteGround simply doesn’t have the expertise and know-how that Convesio does.

CONVESIO

With Convesio, you can get WordPress support with a quick turnaround time. Convesio staffs full-time WordPress experts that typically respond to chat messages in 30 seconds. Convesio provides 24/7 chat assistance and access via our Slack channel, which allows us to resolve technical issues without filing tickets or waiting for tier escalation support. Convesio also answers and investigates issues with WordPress that go far beyond simple server questions.

Our support is 24/7, tier-less and goes the extra mile. We promise performance and scale and if this means diving deep into WordPress to resolve an issue we’ll do it.

We’ve adopted Slack as the main internal support channel. You’ll reach support first but any team member, or even multiple people, can jump in to help if needed. It’s not uncommon for our CEO, Tom Fanelli, to lend and a hand either.

Our Promise

Our platform delivers the performance you need at scale. But we also know that there are 100 different things that can go wrong. If they do, support is just one click away - 24/7. We'll do whatever it takes to help. Not upsell you to a more expensive plan.
Conclusion

Need Dependable Hosting for Your Business?

SiteGround is a solid host and their customers are largely happy with their hosting plans. However, they is designed for smaller, less-serious websites – and their feature set shows it. If your business relies on your website to generate revenue, you’ll probably want a more serious host like Convesio.
